Inspiration from the Red Carpet
Inspiration for your wedding dress doesn't have to be restricted to bridal fashion. With awards season about to start I've been thinking about red carpet dresses.
I've included a variety here from the classic to the slightly bonkers. Some are from a while back, and some from just last year.
Although these dresses can't be literally translated into wedding dresses, they can certainly offer some inspiration for fabric, silhouette and details.
So, in no particular order.

Jennifer Lawrence
Wearing Dior
The Oscars
2013
I love the simplicity of this dress, just a simple colour and silhouette cut beautifully.

Helena Bonham Carter
at the Great Expectations Premier
2012
I love the neckline of this dress and the bold colour contrast. Done in more subtle colours it could very easily translate into a wedding dress.

Björk
Wearing Marjan Pejoski
at the Oscars
2001
It's nearly 20 years since Björk wore this quirky avant garde swan dress, but there's still something I love about it. It might be a bit crazy for a wedding dress, but the ruffles are fantastic.

Michelle Williams
wearing Vera Wang
at The Oscars
2006
I love everything about this dress. The colour, neckline, fabric, draping. It's just stunning.

Jennifer Lopez
Wearing Versace
at the Grammy Awards
2000
I'm not sure how many of us could pull this dress off, but it's such an iconic dress that I had to include it. With the neck a bit (or a lot) higher, and perhaps a lining, this silhouette could look fantastic in the right fabric.

Kate Winslett
Wearing Jenny Packham
at the Labor Day Premier
2013
Kate just proves you can look amazing when heavily pregnant. What a perfect choice of dress.

Julia Roberts
Wearing Vintage Valentino
at The Oscars
2001
It was classified as vintage, although it was only from 1992. But it's definitely one of the most iconic dresses for a while. So much about this dress could be translated into bridalwear.

Viola Davis
Wearing Zac Posen
at the Screen Actors Guild Awards
2016
The cut of this dress is impeccable, I just absolutely love it. I could see it working in just about any colour. I do just wonder how high she can lift her arms though!

Angelina Jolie
Wearing Atelier Versace
at The Oscars
2010
Who doesn't remember Angelina's leg in this dress! Despite her leg being remembered more than the dress itself, it is a gorgeous dress!

Gwyneth Paltrow
Wearing Alexander Mcqueen
at The Oscars
2002
I applaud Gwyneth for wearing something a bit different, but unfortunately even she admits she should have worn an bra!

Halle Berry
Wearing Elie Saab
at The Oscars
2002
I have to admit it's not one of my favourites, and it does look a bit dated, however I wanted to include it for it's great use of illusion tulle. I do seem to remember thinking it was fantastic at the time.

Rihanna
Guo Pei
at The Met Gala
2015
You don't make much more of a statement than wearing a bold gown like this. She did however say she could hardly walk in it!

Liz Hurley
Wearing Versace
at the Four Weddings and a Funeral Premier
1994
I remember seeing this dress for the first time, and back then it was considered quite controversial, I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid now! I don't think she will ever regret choosing to wear this dress!

Blake Lively
Wearing Versace
at the Met Gala
2018
If you've not looked at the Met Gala dresses before for inspiration, take a look!
I love this ornate gown.

Lady GaGa
Wearing Armani
at The Grammy's
2010
Well who'd have thought this dress was designed by Armani. It's bonkers, as is she, but I love it, so thought what better dress to end on!
I hope this has been a bit of inspiration if you're thinking about a special dress, or just a bit of fun if you're just browsing.
If you've got a favourite that I've not included, I'd love to hear from you.
