2020 Wedding, not quite what anyone expected!

August 8, 2020

So I usually keep up with my blog once a month, often this time of year a few photo's of what I'm up to, or wedding stories. But 2020 has been somewhat different!

I would have expected to be able to start sharing some lovely happy wedding photo's by now, but unfortunately, most of the dresses are still in my cupboard waiting to be worn!

I'm really hoping for every couple approaching their late 2020 wedding, that things go to plan, and we can all start sharing some happy wedding photo's again soon.....

In the mean time, a few nice lockdown wedding stories you might have missed;

Karolina Kovalenko and Stephan Ponova. This has to be one of my favourite stories. (Photo: Sky News)

Nevona Friedman was cycling on the bridge, which crosses the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York City, over the weekend when she spotted the pair getting married.

Not wanting to interrupt their private ceremony - which was only attended by an officiant - she decided to track them down on social media instead.

"They were so invested in each other, so like they were looking at each other, so I didn't want to be like, 'Here, I took a photo of you,'" Ms Friedman told NBC News.

Julia Payne and Henry Matter. Such a lovely story. (Photo: BBC)

The couple spent more than six weeks apart when Julia contracted Covid-19, as they did not live together.

As soon as Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced weddings could take place from 4 July, they started planning for the amended wedding date.

Mr Matter, 34, from Ipswich, said: "It's about our next life step, this is more about what we can do moving forward in life, we can live together, start a family."

Kirti Agrawal and Avinash Singh Bagri.  Who'd have imagined a virtual wedding a few months back! (Photo: The Indian Express).

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the couple had their virtual wedding on April 14, with their parents and a few friends in attendance, via video conferencing app Zoom.

He admitted that considering the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, a grand celebration was out of the question, but “postponing the wedding never crossed my mind”.

With no time for shopping and preparations, while Bagri wore his engagement kurta pyjama, Agrawal was able to fashion a wedding lehenga from a skirt with help from Bagri’s sister.

Clare Higgins and her partner Stewart Mears. I love this video! (STV News)

Clare, her family and friends didn’t want to miss out on the party so they thought up a creative way to celebrate what should have been the party of the year.

Claire and her wedding guests got dressed up in their own homes, danced and sipped bubbly to create a heartwarming video.

Emma and Josh. I just love their positive outlook. (Photo: Love My Dress)

This really is a story for our times and it’s just about the happiest, most wonderful thing we’ve heard for a while. When the world is shaking around you and you’re wondering what you can hold on to, this is proof that if you hold onto love, you’ll be just fine.

This will be one hell of a tale to tell in years to come, as stressful as it is right now.

What we thought was going to be our Happy Ever After has actually just started our story.

So 2020 is definitely not the year any of us planned, but I hope these lovely stories have put a smile on your face.

Life will return to 'normal' at some point, and until then, lets be creative, positive and keep each other smiling.
